Bhutan’s first Minister of Education, Bhutan

Thakur S Powdyel is Bhutan’s former Minister of Education, and an educator by choice, conviction and passion. As the country’s first democratically elected education minister, he led Bhutan towards fulfilling the Millenium Developmental Goals and the country’s constitutional mandate for education. His major interests include Gross National Happiness in education, moral literacy, institutional integrity, and national self-respect. He is the author of Right of Vision and My Green School, where he expresses his vision of holistic education. He is a recipient of several international awards for his work in the Noble Sector as well as the Coronation Gold Medal 2008 and the Institutional Award: The Honour of Druk Thuksey 2012.
